How Victor Magan “Built His Dream Job While Working His Day Job” And Continues To Thrive With Integrity
When Victor Magan was seven years old, he lived in an old, six-floor apartment building in Washington Heights in New York. The building superintendent managed the three surrounding buildings as well. Even though Victor’s building was in okay shape, residents and visitors would always discard their gum in the hallways. Being the restless, young, entrepreneurial spirit that he was, Victor approached the superintendent one day and offered to scrape all the gum off the four buildings’ floors for just a few dollars. He then continued to do this on a monthly basis. “It was hard work, but I loved it because I was making my own money,” Magan says. “I liked the flexibility and the freedom. I was only seven and I was my own boss.”
About Victor
Victor is the owner and CEO of Network Brainiacs, which provides all-inclusive IT support, including compliance services and cyber security, to New York and New Jersey. Victor has nearly 25 years of working in the IT field. For the past five years, he has focused on compliance and cybersecurity threats.
The same entrepreneurial drive that compelled him at the age of seven to earn extra money by offering to dispose of discarded gum left in the hallways of his family’s Washington Heights, NY apartment building (he later expanded to three surrounding buildings owned by the superintendent) led to him to start Network Brainiacs in 2011.
His dream job is to free businesses from their IT nightmares. At the core of Network Brainiac’s mission is committed and customized customer service. At managed service providers where he previously worked, he noticed that clients were offered expensive services that made the companies good money, but that the client did not actually need. This was a key factor in his decision to launch Network Brainiacs. He and his team are focused on IT best practices that prioritize training and education, because what his clents’ employees do not know about compliance and cybersecurity can cost their businesses not only money, but their reputation, and even their very existence.
Victor did not own a computer growing up, but he knew they were the future. When he was 20, he accepted a job in the mailroom of the Citibank branch where his mother worked, and every day for four months, he checked in with the IT department to see if any positions had become available. The one day he did not call, the IT department manager, who admired his persistence, called him to inform him of an opening.
Victor strongly believes in paying it forward and giving back. Network Brainiacs is involved with several local chambers of commerce and prioritizes sponsoring youth football and Little League teams. This is especially important to Victor as he didn’t have those opportunities when he was growing up. That is why Network Brainiacs earmarks funds for kids in need to purchase gloves, baseballs, bats and other equipment.
Victor himself loves playing basketball, but his most precious time is spent with this family, including his wife Juana, whom he married on 10/10/10, and their four children: his daughters, ages 19, 12 and 4, and his son, 17. In addition to very competitive Game Nights every Thursday, they also enjoy movie nights together.
Victor’s motto is, “We make lives more convenient,” but his core mission goes deeper than that. He is committed to making sure that his client’s infrastructures are still operating at peak efficiency for decades to come.
